چکیده

Sinus node dysfunction has been described as an inherited (autosomal recessive form) problem by Benson et al1. The cause seems to be certain specific mutations on the SCN5A gene. Patients with long QT type 3 (SCN5A mutation) have sinus bradycardia as part of the spectrum of abnormalities in this disease2. Atrial standstill is a rare condition where the atrium is silent i.e. there is no electrical activity present and also the atrium is not excitable by pacing. Rare, inherited forms of this condition have been described3,4.

Syncope in patients with inherited arrhythmias

Syncope, a common symptom of cerebral ischemia often shows a multifactorial etiopathogenesis. Although inherited arrhythmias causing syncope is uncommon, such an occurrence could be a warning sign preceding cardiac arrest. Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a typical inherited arrhythmia causing syncope in children. Early diagnosis and treatment of LQTS using beta-blockers prevents recurrent syncope in...

Emergency diagnosis and management of common pediatric tachyarrhythmia

Tachycardia is common in the pediatric age group. The most commonly seen arrhythmias in children are sinus tachycardia. However, supraventricular tachycardia is the most common tachyarrhythmia that necessitates treatment. Ventricular tachycardia is rare in healthy children but may be associated with sudden cardiac death.  The important risk factors that predispose children for arrhythmias inclu...
